CLARK COUNTY - Some local SWAT members spent time
learning new tactics from a former Israeli commando.
Aaron Cohen with IMS Security was at Camp
Bonneville this week to train members of the Southwest Washington Regional
SWAT Team.
As part of the training, Cohen ran the SWAT
members through a simulated shopping mall scenario.
Live rounds were used during the training, which
was also attended by two Seattle police officers, two soldiers from the
Army who will be going to Iraq and even a customs agent from Florida.
Cohen is a former member of Israel's top
counter-terrorism unit whose aim is to teach new tactics and change
mindsets.
"My goal isn't to teach them to hit a
bulls-eye," he told KATU News. "They already know how to shoot
straight. My goal is to give them a skill set and a combat doctrine or
philosophy."
The training can also be applied to non-terrorist
situations, like when a man went on a shooting rampage recently at a
Tacoma shopping center.
